The landscape here is defined by the remnants of martial ambition, most notably the Motte Castle at Upper Buckton, which rises as a solitary, grass-covered mound against the horizon. Below this earthwork, the land yields to the subtle geometric ghosts of a Roman fort, where the soil still holds the faint, buried geometry of ancient barracks. A particular clarity of light often descends upon the fields at dusk, sharpening the outlines of the hedgerows and revealing the long, slow contours of the earth.
