Reading the map like an IGM sheet. Click Grid to lay a labelled UTM grid over the map, quoted along the edges the way a printed IGM 1:25 000 tavoletta quotes it — at normal zoom the squares are one kilometre across, so a six-figure reference can be read by eye and distance judged straight off the map. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance between them with the grid, true and magnetic bearings, the last being the one to set on a compass.
Click 📍 My position for a single GPS fix. It marks where you are and reports it as Gauss-Boaga (the grid printed on the IGM Carta d'Italia), as ETRS89 / UTM (the grid Italy uses today), and as plain latitude and longitude, with a copy button so it can be pasted into a message. It takes one reading and stops, to save the battery. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not — so the grid reference stays correct in the Apennines and the Alps, where the map itself often will not load.

The province of Ancona stretches from the Adriatic coast to the rugged interior, defined by hills that run in parallel ridges toward the sea. The landscape is shaped by the Fiume Esino and the distant heights of Monte Catria. Once a Greek colony and later a vital maritime republic, the region carries the marks of its strategic history. Today, the economy thrives on textile and manufacturing sectors, balanced by the enduring legacy of Verdicchio vines. The light here is sharp, catching the white cliffs of the Conero as they fall into the Adriatic, while the air in the inland valleys remains heavy with the scent of turned earth and stone.
Ancona itself serves as the provincial heart, home to the Roman Amphitheatre of Ancona and the Cattedrale di San Ciriaco. In the wider countryside, towns like Senigallia offer the Spiaggia di Velluto and the Rocca Roveresca di Senigallia. Jesi preserves its heritage through the Palazzo Pianetti and the Cattedrale di San Settimio. These cities reflect a rhythm of life set by the seasons and the cycle of the markets. Whether moving through the Loggia dei Mercanti or standing near the Monumento ai Caduti del Passetto, one senses the weight of a frontier that was fought over for centuries.
Beyond the urban centers, the territory encompasses diverse natural spaces, from the Riserva Naturale Regionale Orientata di Ripa Bianca to the Parco Naturale Regionale della Gola della Rossa e di Frasassi. The topography near the centre includes Monte Schiavo and the proximity of the Torrente Esinante. These spaces offer a quiet contrast to the brick hill towns that guard the slopes. As the sun dips behind the distant peaks, the hedge that once hid the horizon remains a silent witness to the quiet persistence of those who live between the riverbanks and the sea.
Explore Ancona, Marche, Italy, with a Google street and satellite map — switch between the two with the buttons on the map. Street View gives a ground-level view along the roads. Coordinates: 43.5234, 13.2153. Place names, the comune and provincia hierarchy and the population come from Istat: the administrative boundaries of 1 January 2026 and the 2021 census of inhabited localities. Local and world news feeds keep the page current, and the bilingual description is written from the data this site holds rather than copied from elsewhere. This hub links to every comune in the Province of Ancona and to 477 place maps in the provincia.
Search Maps opens a second, independent map. It searches OpenStreetMap for any Italian comune, frazione, mountain or landmark by name; overlays a labelled UTM grid quoted the way a printed IGM 1:25 000 tavoletta quotes it; measures distance with grid, true and magnetic bearings between any two points; and takes a single GPS fix reporting your position as a Gauss-Boaga reference, as ETRS89 / UTM, and as latitude and longitude. Map tiles need mobile coverage, but a GPS position does not, so the grid reference stays correct where the map cannot load.
There is no topographic layer on these pages. The Istituto Geografico Militare serves its Carta d'Italia only inside the EU, so an Italian equivalent of the 1:25 000 walking sheet cannot be shown here — the UTM grid over OpenStreetMap is what stands in its place.
