SEARCH MAPS. The green 🔍 Search Maps button below the map opens a second, independent map on OpenStreetMap coverage of the whole country. Its search box finds any Italian comune, frazione, mountain or landmark by name, so you are not limited to Enna.
Reading the map like an IGM sheet. Click Grid to lay a labelled UTM grid over the map, quoted along the edges the way a printed IGM 1:25 000 tavoletta quotes it — at normal zoom the squares are one kilometre across, so a six-figure reference can be read by eye and distance judged straight off the map. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance between them with the grid, true and magnetic bearings, the last being the one to set on a compass.
Click 📍 My position for a single GPS fix. It marks where you are and reports it as Gauss-Boaga (the grid printed on the IGM Carta d'Italia), as ETRS89 / UTM (the grid Italy uses today), and as plain latitude and longitude, with a copy button so it can be pasted into a message. It takes one reading and stops, to save the battery. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not — so the grid reference stays correct in the Apennines and the Alps, where the map itself often will not load.

Enna sits at the heart of the Sicilian interior, a land defined by the bare, rolling wheat hills that ripple toward the horizon. This Libero consorzio di comuni remains a place of profound solitude, where the light is already African and the air holds the dry scent of prickly pear. The landscape is carved by the Fiume Dittaino and the high slopes of Piano Fiumara, while the waters of Lago di Pergusa lie waiting in the distance. It is a region where the earth reflects the history of those who crossed it, from the ancient Greeks who knew the Rocca di Cerere to the Norman builders of the Castello di Lombardia.
The province encompasses twenty comuni, with the city of Enna serving as the high, central sentinel. Beyond the capital, towns like Piazza Armerina reveal the depth of the past, most notably through the intricate mosaics of the Villa Romana del Casale. Nicosia adds its own architectural weight with the Chiesa di Santa Maria Maggiore, standing as a reminder of the artistic currents that shaped these inland settlements. The local economy remains anchored to the rhythms of the land, a quiet cycle of cultivation that has persisted long after the fall of kingdoms and the shifts of colonial powers.
Life here moves with a steady, deliberate pace, far removed from the clamour of the coast. Near the Invaso Nicoletti or along the paths leading toward Monte Spiga, the silence is broken only by the wind moving through the valley of Contrada Rassuara. Whether exploring the Museo Archeologico Regionale di Enna or walking past the Porta di Janniscuru, one feels the weight of a geography that has been fought over and inhabited for millennia. It is a province of stone and sky, where the legacy of the Roman province and the medieval duchy remains etched into the very texture of the terrain.

This hub links to every comune in the Province of Enna and to 49 place maps in the provincia.
Search Maps opens a second, independent map. It searches OpenStreetMap for any Italian comune, frazione, mountain or landmark by name; overlays a labelled UTM grid quoted the way a printed IGM 1:25 000 tavoletta quotes it; measures distance with grid, true and magnetic bearings between any two points; and takes a single GPS fix reporting your position as a Gauss-Boaga reference, as ETRS89 / UTM, and as latitude and longitude. Map tiles need mobile coverage, but a GPS position does not, so the grid reference stays correct where the map cannot load.
There is no topographic layer on these pages. The Istituto Geografico Militare serves its Carta d'Italia only inside the EU, so an Italian equivalent of the 1:25 000 walking sheet cannot be shown here — the UTM grid over OpenStreetMap is what stands in its place.
