Westcott occupies a quiet, verdant fold of the Surrey Hills, where the chalky earth meets the verdant greensand of the Mole Valley. It lies 1.6 miles west-south-west of Dorking (from Dorking: bearing 252°T, OS grid TQ 141 486), and is situated north-east of Wotton village. The local character is defined by the expansive, open expanse of Westcott Green, where the morning light catches the dew on the grass with a sharp, silver clarity. Rising to the north-west, the slopes of Hole Hill offer a vantage point over the timber-framed cottages and the Victorian architecture that characterises the older streets. Residents often walk the paths towards the nearby Denbies Hillside, where the view stretches across the rolling topography of the North Downs. The soil here, rich and heavy, has long supported a rhythm of life dictated by the shifting seasons rather than the haste of the nearby motorway.
