Streatley gathers its modest collection of brick and flint cottages beneath the long, chalky shoulder of the Chiltern scarp. It lies 4.3 miles north-east of Houghton Regis (from Houghton Regis: bearing 49°T, OS grid TL 070 286), and is situated south-south-east of Sharpenhoe village. The sky here holds a particular, wide-eyed clarity, casting sharp shadows across the lanes that wander toward the base of Smithcombe Hill. To the north, the ancient earthworks of Sharpenhoe Clappers rise like a silent, grassy crown above the surrounding fields. Streatley maintains a quiet dignity, its boundaries defined by the slow, seasonal pulse of the surrounding agricultural plains.
