Turvey commands the banks of the River Great Ouse, where the water moves with a heavy, deliberate pace through the limestone landscape of Bedfordshire. It lies 3.4 miles east of Olney (from Olney: bearing 85°T, OS grid SP 944 524), and is situated east of Cold Brayfield village. The stone arches of Turvey Bridge, a Scheduled Monument, span the river with a functional gravity that has endured since the fourteenth century. Beyond the water, the landscape opens into the expansive grounds of the Historic Park and Garden to Turvey House, where sixty-one hectares of managed greenery soften the sharp edges of the horizon.
