Stretton emerges from the quiet Cheshire landscape as a cluster of homes defined by the slow, deliberate turn of the seasons. It lies 8.7 miles south-south-east of Chester (from Chester: bearing 161°T, OS grid SJ 448 529), and is situated south of Barton village. The light here catches the pale stone of Stretton Water Mill, where the heavy gears once ground grain into fine, dusty flour.
