It lies 4.1 miles north-north-east of Grange-over-Sands (from Grange-over-Sands: bearing 24°T, OS grid SD 433 838), and is situated west-north-west of Town End village. The light here has a peculiar, translucent quality, catching the grey edges of the crags before settling into the green hollows of the valley floor.
