Biggin occupies a quiet, elevated pocket of the Derbyshire landscape, where the limestone soil holds the memory of ancient agricultural cycles. It lies 3.9 miles south-south-west of Wirksworth (from Wirksworth: bearing 206°T, OS grid SK 259 483), and is situated north of Hulland Ward village. The light here has a particular clarity, catching the low stone walls that divide the fields into a patchwork of muted greens and greys. To the south-east, the modest flow of Biggin Brook traces a path through the pasture, its presence marked by a slight deepening of the verdant hollows.
