Pomeroy reveals itself as a quiet collection of dwellings defined by the limestone bones of the Derbyshire Dales. It lies 5.3 miles south-east of Buxton (from Buxton: bearing 133°T, OS grid SK 120 673), and is situated south-south-west of Flagg village. Because Pomeroy sits firmly within the Peak District National Park, the horizon is dominated by an expansive, unyielding sky that reflects the grey-white hues of the local stone. The land here remains rich in ecological detail, as the nearby Hurdlow Meadows SSSI preserves a rare, ancient meadow flora that has largely vanished from the intensive fields of the lowlands.
