It lies 4.5 miles east-north-east of Bakewell (from Bakewell: bearing 60°T, OS grid SK 279 721), and is situated east of Baslow village. High above the valley floor, the light catches the weathered stone of Robin Hood, lending the buildings a pale, silvered quality that seems to shift with the passing of the clouds. Ancient remnants of human endurance persist in the vicinity, including the sprawling cairnfield and ring cairn situated just to the northeast, where the earth still holds the quiet imprint of earlier inhabitants. The nearby slopes of Birchen Edge rise with a stern, imposing grace, offering a vantage point where the wind carries the scent of heather and damp peat across the moor. Below these heights, the waters of Heathy Lea Brook trace a thin, restless silver line through the terrain, softening the harsh edges of the surrounding gritstone.
