Ramsley occupies a rugged threshold where the granite spine of the earth begins to assert its dominance over the rolling Devonshire pasture. It lies 4.1 miles east-south-east of Okehampton (from Okehampton: bearing 106°T, OS grid SX 651 932), and is situated south of South Zeal village. High above the lowlands, Ramsley breathes the thin, sharp air of Dartmoor National Park, where the horizon pulls away to reveal the vast, cloud-dappled expanse of the high moor.
