It lies 4.2 miles north-north-east of Lyme Regis (from Lyme Regis: bearing 26°T, OS grid SY 370 982), and is situated south-west of Marshalsea village. The hamlet occupies a sheltered hollow where the light seems to linger, caught by the damp, verdant slopes that define the local topography. This quiet pocket of land sits directly within the Lambert's Castle SSSI, where the earth holds the stillness of centuries beneath its wild, tangled cover. To the north-north-east, the imposing contours of Lambert's Castle Hill rise abruptly, a silent sentinel of Iron Age memory watching over the valley floor. Fishpond Bottom remains a place of low horizons and heavy, fertile air, far removed from the clamour of the coast. The soil here, dark and rich, supports a landscape that feels less inhabited than merely endured by those who tend its narrow, winding lanes. Even the wind seems to lose its keen edge as it descends into the bowl of the valley, leaving the trees to rustle with a slow, deliberate cadence.
