Ninfield commands a gentle ridge in the Wealden landscape, where the shifting light of the English Channel softens the edges of its horizon. It lies 3.3 miles south-west of Battle (from Battle: bearing 228°T, OS grid TQ 706 124), and is situated south-west of Catsfield village. Ancient timber-framed cottages share the lanes with sturdy brick dwellings, their gables catching the low, amber sun as it stretches across the fields.
