How to Use This Map / Mode d'emploi

Use the Map and Satellite buttons to switch between the street map and aerial imagery, and the + and − buttons to zoom. Click ⛶ Fullscreen for a larger view; press Escape or tap ✕ Exit Fullscreen to return.

OFFICIAL FRENCH MAPS. The green 🔍 Search Maps button opens a second map with three base layers: OSM (OpenStreetMap), Plan IGN — France's official national map from the Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière — and Photos, the IGN's aerial photography. Two overlays go over any of them: Contours, the IGN's contour lines, and Relief, hillshading from the RGE ALTI one-metre terrain model. The search box finds any place in France or beyond by name.

Click Grid to overlay the UTM grid — one-kilometre squares at normal zoom. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance plus the grid, true and magnetic bearing.

📍 My position takes a single GPS reading and shows it as an MGRS reference, as plain UTM, as Lambert-93 (the French national grid, EPSG:2154) and as latitude and longitude, with a Copy position button. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not.

Mode d'emploi.

About Leymen

Leymen rests within a quiet fold of the Haut-Rhin, where the wooded slopes of the Glaserberg rise to meet the sky. The landscape is defined by the gentle presence of the Ruisseau la Birsig and the nearby canopy of the Eichwald. Here, the atmosphere holds the stillness of the Rhine plain, punctuated by the familiar sight of half-timbering and geraniums blooming in window boxes. Germanic place names linger in the air, echoing a history where Alsatian is heard alongside the soft cadence of French, grounding the village in a landscape that feels both intimate and ancient.

A short walk from the village, the ruins of Château du Landskron stand as a sentinel upon the ridge, offering a skeletal view of the surrounding hills. Nearby, the Remelturm rises as a silent observation tower above the greenery, while the Schloss Biederthal speaks to the architectural grace of the region. For those who wander further, the Canyon de Biederthal carves a dramatic path through the earth. Each site remains tethered to the terrain, inviting a contemplative discovery of the sandstone remnants and natural ridges that define this corner of the Grand Est.
