Estrées s'inscrit au cœur des plaines immenses du Nord, où l'horizon se perd sous un ciel bas et gris. Le paysage est rythmé par le cours tranquille de la Goeulzin et la silhouette proche de ce que l'on nomme simplement le Bois. Non loin, les reliefs du Mont Hardon viennent rompre la monotonie de la terre grasse, propice à la culture de la betterave et du blé. C'est un pays de briques et de grands vents, où les anciens terrils dessinent encore, à la lisière du regard, la mémoire laborieuse du bassin minier.
