OFFICIAL FRENCH MAPS. The green 🔍 Search Maps button opens a second map with three base layers: OSM (OpenStreetMap), Plan IGN — France's official national map from the Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière — and Photos, the IGN's aerial photography. Two overlays go over any of them: Contours, the IGN's contour lines, and Relief, hillshading from the RGE ALTI one-metre terrain model. The search box finds any place in France or beyond by name.
Click Grid to overlay the UTM grid — one-kilometre squares at normal zoom. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance plus the grid, true and magnetic bearing.
📍 My position takes a single GPS reading and shows it as an MGRS reference, as plain UTM, as Lambert-93 (the French national grid, EPSG:2154) and as latitude and longitude, with a Copy position button. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not.
Mode d'emploi.

Hamel sits quietly amidst the wide, open plains of the Nord, where the horizon is dominated by big skies and the rhythmic cycle of beet and wheat. Nearby, the Rivière la Sensée meanders through the landscape, while le Mont rises gently above the surrounding fields. The area carries the sturdy character of red brick farms and the distant memory of industrial toil. A short journey away, the Château de Gœulzin stands as a silent witness to time, while the Menhir dit La Pierre du Diable marks the ancient earth. Nearby, the Centre Historique Minier de Lewarde preserves the deep, coal-dusted heritage of this unique region.
