How to Use This Map / Mode d'emploi

Use the Map and Satellite buttons to switch between the street map and aerial imagery, and the + and − buttons to zoom. Click ⛶ Fullscreen for a larger view; press Escape or tap ✕ Exit Fullscreen to return.

OFFICIAL FRENCH MAPS. The green 🔍 Search Maps button opens a second map with three base layers: OSM (OpenStreetMap), Plan IGN — France's official national map from the Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière — and Photos, the IGN's aerial photography. Two overlays go over any of them: Contours, the IGN's contour lines, and Relief, hillshading from the RGE ALTI one-metre terrain model. The search box finds any place in France or beyond by name.

Click Grid to overlay the UTM grid — one-kilometre squares at normal zoom. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance plus the grid, true and magnetic bearing.

📍 My position takes a single GPS reading and shows it as an MGRS reference, as plain UTM, as Lambert-93 (the French national grid, EPSG:2154) and as latitude and longitude, with a Copy position button. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not.

Mode d'emploi.

About Montmain

Montmain rests within the Vexin Normand, a landscape defined by the quiet rhythm of the bocage, where small fields are stitched together by thick hedges. Close by, the woodland of les Câtelaines offers a shaded sanctuary, while the nearby river la Ravine traces a gentle path through the terrain. In the soft grey light that has long captivated painters, the earth here seems to hold its memories with a solemn stillness, reflecting the quiet weight of the past. The horizon is shaped by the presence of the wider countryside, where the scent of apple orchards lingers and the silhouettes of flint churches rise above the wet pastures.

A short journey away, the region reveals its deeper character through sites of enduring historical resonance. The Château de Martainville stands as a testament to the local heritage, while the Menhir dit la Pierre Saint-Martin anchors the landscape in an ancient, earthen silence. Visitors may also find themselves drawn to the Basilique Notre-Dame de Bonsecours, which commands a view over the broader valley, or the Historial Jeanne d'Arc, offering a reflective encounter with the narratives that have shaped this corner of Normandie. These landmarks, set against the backdrop of the Vexin Normand, invite a slow and contemplative exploration of the land.
