How to Use This Map / Mode d'emploi

Use the Map and Satellite buttons to switch between the street map and aerial imagery, and the + and − buttons to zoom. Click ⛶ Fullscreen for a larger view; press Escape or tap ✕ Exit Fullscreen to return.

OFFICIAL FRENCH MAPS. The green 🔍 Search Maps button opens a second map with three base layers: OSM (OpenStreetMap), Plan IGN — France's official national map from the Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière — and Photos, the IGN's aerial photography. Two overlays go over any of them: Contours, the IGN's contour lines, and Relief, hillshading from the RGE ALTI one-metre terrain model. The search box finds any place in France or beyond by name.

Click Grid to overlay the UTM grid — one-kilometre squares at normal zoom. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance plus the grid, true and magnetic bearing.

📍 My position takes a single GPS reading and shows it as an MGRS reference, as plain UTM, as Lambert-93 (the French national grid, EPSG:2154) and as latitude and longitude, with a Copy position button. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not.

Mode d'emploi.

About Gaugeac

Gaugeac rests within the quiet folds of the Dordogne, a landscape defined by the gentle currents of le Dropt and the shadowed expanse of la Tousière. Beyond the village, the air carries the scent of walnut and damp earth, leading toward the Bassin de la Dordogne. Visitors wandering the wider countryside might encounter the formidable silhouette of Château de Biron, a sentinel over the valley, or trace the historic lines of nearby Monpazier. Further afield, the stone walls of Château de Gavaudun rise from the terrain, offering a stark reminder of the region’s enduring presence beneath the tall, shifting skies of Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
