How to Use This Map / Mode d'emploi

Use the Map and Satellite buttons to switch between the street map and aerial imagery, and the + and − buttons to zoom. Click ⛶ Fullscreen for a larger view; press Escape or tap ✕ Exit Fullscreen to return.

OFFICIAL FRENCH MAPS. The green 🔍 Search Maps button opens a second map with three base layers: OSM (OpenStreetMap), Plan IGN — France's official national map from the Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière — and Photos, the IGN's aerial photography. Two overlays go over any of them: Contours, the IGN's contour lines, and Relief, hillshading from the RGE ALTI one-metre terrain model. The search box finds any place in France or beyond by name.

Click Grid to overlay the UTM grid — one-kilometre squares at normal zoom. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance plus the grid, true and magnetic bearing.

📍 My position takes a single GPS reading and shows it as an MGRS reference, as plain UTM, as Lambert-93 (the French national grid, EPSG:2154) and as latitude and longitude, with a Copy position button. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not.

Mode d'emploi.

About Beaufort

Beaufort lies cradled within the rugged landscape of the Occitanie region, where the scent of box and thyme rises from the earth after rain. The river le Tartiguier winds through this terrain, edged by the rising slopes of the Causse Grand. Nearby, the Parc Naturel Régional du Haut Languedoc offers a vast expanse of protected wilderness. Visitors may explore the formidable Château de Beaufort standing within the village, or journey to the ancient Vestiges de l'oppidum de Cayla to trace the echoes of the past. Beyond these, the mysterious Dolmen des Fades ou Palet de Roland rests quietly in the wider countryside, a silent witness to the enduring character of this limestone land.
