How to Use This Map / Mode d'emploi

Use the Map and Satellite buttons to switch between the street map and aerial imagery, and the + and − buttons to zoom. Click ⛶ Fullscreen for a larger view; press Escape or tap ✕ Exit Fullscreen to return.

OFFICIAL FRENCH MAPS. The green 🔍 Search Maps button opens a second map with three base layers: OSM (OpenStreetMap), Plan IGN — France's official national map from the Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière — and Photos, the IGN's aerial photography. Two overlays go over any of them: Contours, the IGN's contour lines, and Relief, hillshading from the RGE ALTI one-metre terrain model. The search box finds any place in France or beyond by name.

Click Grid to overlay the UTM grid — one-kilometre squares at normal zoom. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance plus the grid, true and magnetic bearing.

📍 My position takes a single GPS reading and shows it as an MGRS reference, as plain UTM, as Lambert-93 (the French national grid, EPSG:2154) and as latitude and longitude, with a Copy position button. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not.

Mode d'emploi.

About Chastanier

Chastanier rests quietly upon the Plateau du Palais du Roi, a commune defined by the rhythmic flow of le Chapeauroux and the shadowed depths of the Bois des Bessettes. The landscape carries the scent of box and thyme after rain, where schist meets the sprawling expanse of the Réservoir de Naussac. Nearby, the horizon is anchored by le Serre, while the wider countryside reveals the ruins of the Ancien château abbatial, a silent witness to time. Further afield, the rugged profile of the Château de Luc commands the landscape, while the stone presence of the Château de Condres invites quiet reflection amid the windswept hills.
