Far Green gathers its modest houses where the Cotswold escarpment begins to lose its sharp resolve into the Severn Vale. It lies 2.0 miles north-east of Dursley (from Dursley: bearing 46°T, OS grid SO 779 004), and is situated east-north-east of Ashmead Green village. The light here has a peculiar clarity, catching the pale limestone walls of the older cottages before sliding away toward the distant, hazy horizon. To the south-west, the slopes of Cam Long Down rise like a slumbering flank, anchoring the horizon against the shifting weather of the valley. A short walk eastward leads into the dense, shadowed canopy of Coaley Wood, where the air holds a cool, damp stillness even in the height of summer. Ancient paths wind through these woodlands, tracing routes that have served local travellers since the time when the Uley Long Barrow was first raised upon the nearby ridge.
