To the north, the weathered stone of the Hayden Knoll Gatehouse Lodge remains as a stubborn relic, marking a boundary where the past refuses to dissolve entirely into the grass. The eponymous Golden Valley itself dips slightly to the east-south-east, offering a natural drainage that keeps the fields stubbornly green even in the height of a dry summer.
