About Redcliffe Bay

Redcliffe Bay looks out over the restless grey-green waters of the Severn Estuary, where the tide pulls hard against the limestone cliffs. It lies 1.7 miles west-south-west of Portishead (from Portishead: bearing 247°T, OS grid ST 441 754), and is situated north-north-west of Weston in Gordano village. Salt-laden winds scour the upper slopes, lending a rugged, weathered character to the gardens that cling to the steep incline. To the east, the verdant, sheltered expanse of Nightingale Valley Sssi offers a cool respite from the exposed coastal heights, its dense canopy muffling the distant hum of the modern world. Beyond these woods, the slopes of Weston Down rise sharply, their grassy shoulders catching the low, pale light of the afternoon sun. Redcliffe Bay maintains a quiet dignity, defined by its dramatic relationship with the shifting shoreline and the geological permanence of the surrounding hills. This landscape, shaped by the slow grinding of ancient forces, remains a place where the sky feels vast and the horizon perpetually wide.
