About Hangersley

Hangersley occupies a quiet ridge where the ground rises to meet the expansive, heather-strewn horizon of the New Forest National Park. It lies 1.7 miles east-north-east of Ringwood (from Ringwood: bearing 69°T, OS grid SU 173 061), and is situated north of Hightown village. The air here carries a sharp, clean clarity that seems to sharpen the edges of the distant horizon. Beyond the immediate boundaries of Hangersley, the land dips toward the low-lying basin of Shobley Bottom, where the shadows stretch long and cool even at midday. To the southeast, the gorse and bracken of Hightown Common provide a rugged, untamed contrast to the manicured order of private gardens. Autumnal light often catches the surface of Northfield Lake, turning the water into a sheet of hammered pewter that reflects the shifting clouds above. Hangersley remains a place of quiet transitions, where the domestic life of the Hampshire countryside meets the wild, ancient character of the protected heathland.
