Woodlands occupies a quiet corner of the Hampshire landscape where the ancient, managed canopy of the New Forest National Park begins to soften into domestic lanes. It lies 2.8 miles west-south-west of Totton (from Totton: bearing 245°T, OS grid SU 319 114), and is situated south-west of Netley Marsh village. Low-hanging light catches the damp earth here, illuminating the transition from open heath to the dense, verdant shelter of the nearby Busketts Lawn Inclosure. The surrounding terrain remains defined by the deliberate, rhythmic presence of trees, which exert a gravity on the local horizon. To the east, the modest flow of Bartley Water cuts through the landscape, a thin, silver vein that drains the surrounding slopes. Woodlands maintains a low profile, its character defined more by the shifting shadows of the woodland canopy than by the clamour of modern development. Residents often look towards the rising ground of Yewtree Hill, where the elevation offers a brief, expansive perspective over the sprawling green expanse of the forest. This is a place of dampened sound and muted colours, where the rhythm of the seasons dictates the pace of daily life far more effectively than any clock.
