Gurnard holds the Solent’s edge in a quiet, salt-weathered grip, where the horizon dissolves into the pale grey of the English Channel. It lies 1.2 miles west-south-west of Cowes (from Cowes: bearing 256°T, OS grid SZ 477 956), and is situated north-north-east of Rew Street village. Beyond the modern residential lanes, the land slopes towards the shoreline, where the shingle of Gurnard Beach shifts under the rhythm of the tide. Gurnard Luck carves a modest, meandering path through the landscape, feeding into the sea and marking a boundary where the earth softens into mud and reed. On clear afternoons, the light catches the white sails of passing yachts, casting long, flickering reflections across the water that seem to stretch towards the mainland. The Green provides a grassy vantage point, a place where the wind brings the sharp, clean scent of brine and the low hum of distant maritime activity. Gurnard maintains a distinct character, defined less by its architecture and more by the way the sky expands above the coastal slope.
