New Village stretches across the western reaches of the Isle of Wight, where the horizon broadens under the influence of the nearby Solent winds. It lies 2.1 miles south-south-west of Yarmouth (from Yarmouth: bearing 209°T, OS grid SZ 339 867), and is situated south-east of Freshwater village. The land here holds a quiet composure, marked by the steady, low-lying expanse of the Freshwater Marshes Sssi, where the water catches the grey-blue light of the afternoon with a mirror-like clarity. Residents of New Village often walk toward the nearby Pound Green, a small patch of grass that serves as a humble, verdant anchor for the surrounding residential streets. The architecture reflects a modest, mid-twentieth-century development, favouring practical brickwork that allows the surrounding coastal air to circulate freely through the gardens. Just to the north, the historic ramparts of Golden Hill Fort remain as silent observers of the changing tides and shifting agricultural patterns.
