It lies 2.4 miles north-west of Newport (from Newport: bearing 325°T, OS grid SZ 477 923), and is situated south-south-east of Rew Street village. The terrain here feels deliberate and restrained, defined by the ancient, shadowed canopy of Parkhurst Forest Sssi that envelops the western flank of the landscape. Within the quietude of Pallancegate, the air carries a crisp, woodland clarity that seems to sharpen the edges of every hedgerow and stone. To the south-south-east, the gentle rise of Holme Hill interrupts the flat consistency of the horizon, providing a solitary anchor for the eye.
