Roud emerges from the rolling chalk spine of the Isle of Wight as a quiet cluster of dwellings shaped by the island’s ancient, ridged topography. It lies 3.4 miles west-north-west of Ventnor (from Ventnor: bearing 301°T, OS grid SZ 515 802), and is situated south-west of Godshill village. Sunlight catches the flint-strewn walls of Roud, where the architecture remains tethered to the agricultural earth of the surrounding fields. A short distance away, the quiet surface of Leechmore Pond mirrors the shifting clouds, offering a cool stillness to the landscape. To the south-east, the medieval settlement remains at Stenbury Manor anchor the horizon with the heavy, silent weight of centuries-old stone. The air here carries the faint, sharp scent of damp earth and clover, unburdened by the clamour of busier coastal roads.
