Reading the map like an IGM sheet. Click Grid to lay a labelled UTM grid over the map, quoted along the edges the way a printed IGM 1:25 000 tavoletta quotes it — at normal zoom the squares are one kilometre across, so a six-figure reference can be read by eye and distance judged straight off the map. Favaco is a frazione of Stignano, set within the quiet topography of the Vallata del Precariti. The landscape is shaped by the Fiumara Precariti and the Vallone Favaco, where the air holds a clean, sharp edge that seems to sharpen the silhouettes of nearby Monte Virgane and Monte Foca. The light here catches the stone of the nearby Castello San Fili, a structure that commands the ridge with a silent, heavy presence. Further towards the horizon, the Eremo di Santa Maria della Stella occupies a rugged cave, while the remnants of the Castello di Monasterace watch over the wider territory.
