Reading the map like an IGM sheet. Click Grid to lay a labelled UTM grid over the map, quoted along the edges the way a printed IGM 1:25 000 tavoletta quotes it — at normal zoom the squares are one kilometre across, so a six-figure reference can be read by eye and distance judged straight off the map. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance between them with the grid, true and magnetic bearings, the last being the one to set on a compass.
Click 📍 My position for a single GPS fix. It marks where you are and reports it as Gauss-Boaga (the grid printed on the IGM Carta d'Italia), as ETRS89 / UTM (the grid Italy uses today), and as plain latitude and longitude, with a copy button so it can be pasted into a message. It takes one reading and stops, to save the battery. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not — so the grid reference stays correct in the Apennines and the Alps, where the map itself often will not load.

Formigara rests in the quiet expanse of the Lombardia lowlands, where the air holds the damp, cool breath of the Fiume Adda. The landscape is defined by the steady presence of the Parco dell'Adda Sud and the long, linear shadows cast by poplars near the water. Beyond the village, the horizon is shaped by the gentle contours of the Bosco Pontone and the distant, silvered surface of the Lago Verde. It is a place of slow, deliberate movements, where the morning mist clings to the fields, softening the edges of the horizon before the light turns clear and sharp against the earth.
A short journey from the village reveals the architectural character of the Cremona province. Visitors can explore the Castello Pallavicino Serbelloni, which commands the surrounding fields with a stoic, weathered presence. Nearby, the Santuario della Beata Vergine del Presepe offers a sanctuary of silence, while the Villa Stanga Borromeo reflects the refined, orderly ambitions of a different era. Further out, the Castello di Maccastorna rises with a heavy, defensive grace. These structures sit quietly in the countryside, marking the land as surely as the winding courses of the rivers that define this flat, fertile stretch of northern Italy.

Place names, the comune and provincia hierarchy and the population come from Istat: the administrative boundaries of 1 January 2026 and the 2021 census of inhabited localities. Local and world news feeds keep the page current, and the bilingual description is written from the data this site holds rather than copied from elsewhere. The 30 nearby places listed above are drawn from OpenStreetMap, the IGM toponym database and a curated list checked against Wikipedia.
Search Maps opens a second, independent map. It searches OpenStreetMap for any Italian comune, frazione, mountain or landmark by name; overlays a labelled UTM grid quoted the way a printed IGM 1:25 000 tavoletta quotes it; measures distance with grid, true and magnetic bearings between any two points; and takes a single GPS fix reporting your position as a Gauss-Boaga reference, as ETRS89 / UTM, and as latitude and longitude. Map tiles need mobile coverage, but a GPS position does not, so the grid reference stays correct where the map cannot load.
There is no topographic layer on these pages. The Istituto Geografico Militare serves its Carta d'Italia only inside the EU, so an Italian equivalent of the 1:25 000 walking sheet cannot be shown here — the UTM grid over OpenStreetMap is what stands in its place.
