SEARCH MAPS. The green 🔍 Search Maps button below the map opens a second, independent map on OpenStreetMap coverage of the whole country. Its search box finds any Italian comune, frazione, mountain or landmark by name, so you are not limited to Piemonte.
Reading the map like an IGM sheet. Click Grid to lay a labelled UTM grid over the map, quoted along the edges the way a printed IGM 1:25 000 tavoletta quotes it — at normal zoom the squares are one kilometre across, so a six-figure reference can be read by eye and distance judged straight off the map. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance between them with the grid, true and magnetic bearings, the last being the one to set on a compass.
Click 📍 My position for a single GPS fix. It marks where you are and reports it as Gauss-Boaga (the grid printed on the IGM Carta d'Italia), as ETRS89 / UTM (the grid Italy uses today), and as plain latitude and longitude, with a copy button so it can be pasted into a message. It takes one reading and stops, to save the battery. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not — so the grid reference stays correct in the Apennines and the Alps, where the map itself often will not load.

Piemonte is defined by the rigid spine of the western Alps and the shadow of Monviso. This is a land of mirrored rice paddies and the vine-combed hills of the Langhe, where the air smells of damp earth and hazelnut. The region is divided into eight provinces: Vercelli, Novara, Cuneo, Asti, Alessandria, Biella, Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, and Torino. It is a territory built on the heavy labor of the textile industry and the quiet dignity of rural life. The light here often feels trapped under a low, silver sky, turning the landscape into a study of greys and deep greens that shift with the passing seasons.
Torino stands as the regional heart, a city of baroque arcades and industrial ambition. Its history as the seat of a kingdom left behind the Basilica of Superga and the regal Sabauda Gallery. Beyond the capital, Novara holds the tall silhouette of the Basilica of San Gaudenzio, while Alessandria guards its history within the massive walls of the Cittadella di Alessandria. These cities were centers of commerce long before they became the urban hubs they are today, their streets often bustling with the rhythm of workers heading toward the Borsalino Hat Museum or the local markets.
Asti remains a place where the medieval past is etched into the stone of the Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta and the ancient Cripta e Museo di Sant'Anastasio. The region carries the scars of the partisan resistance of nineteen forty-four, a period when the hills served as both refuge and battleground. This history of struggle and liberation remains woven into the local identity, as grounded as the truffles pulled from the woods or the Barolo cellars carved directly into the hillsides. It is a landscape that demands quiet observation to understand its true character.
From the expansive squares of Moncalieri and Collegno to the smaller centers, the region maintains a distinct social order. Life unfolds in the shadow of the western Alps, where the climate dictates the harvest and the pace of the day. Whether walking through the Borgo Medievale di Torino or standing before the Broletto of Novara, one senses a continuity that survives the changes of the modern era. The people here remain tied to the land, their lives marked by the same mountains and rivers that have shaped their ancestors for centuries.

Explore Piemonte, Italy, Italy, with a Google street and satellite map — switch between the two with the buttons on the map. Street View gives a ground-level view along the roads. Coordinates: 45.0914, 8.0418. Place names, the comune and provincia hierarchy and the population come from Istat: the administrative boundaries of 1 January 2026 and the 2021 census of inhabited localities. Local and world news feeds keep the page current, and the bilingual description is written from the data this site holds rather than copied from elsewhere. This hub links to each of the 8 province of the region and to 7,609 place maps.
Search Maps opens a second, independent map. It searches OpenStreetMap for any Italian comune, frazione, mountain or landmark by name; overlays a labelled UTM grid quoted the way a printed IGM 1:25 000 tavoletta quotes it; measures distance with grid, true and magnetic bearings between any two points; and takes a single GPS fix reporting your position as a Gauss-Boaga reference, as ETRS89 / UTM, and as latitude and longitude. Map tiles need mobile coverage, but a GPS position does not, so the grid reference stays correct where the map cannot load.
There is no topographic layer on these pages. The Istituto Geografico Militare serves its Carta d'Italia only inside the EU, so an Italian equivalent of the 1:25 000 walking sheet cannot be shown here — the UTM grid over OpenStreetMap is what stands in its place.
