SEARCH MAPS. The green 🔍 Search Maps button below the map opens a second, independent map on OpenStreetMap coverage of the whole country. Its search box finds any Italian comune, frazione, mountain or landmark by name, so you are not limited to Vercelli.
Reading the map like an IGM sheet. Click Grid to lay a labelled UTM grid over the map, quoted along the edges the way a printed IGM 1:25 000 tavoletta quotes it — at normal zoom the squares are one kilometre across, so a six-figure reference can be read by eye and distance judged straight off the map. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance between them with the grid, true and magnetic bearings, the last being the one to set on a compass.
Click 📍 My position for a single GPS fix. It marks where you are and reports it as Gauss-Boaga (the grid printed on the IGM Carta d'Italia), as ETRS89 / UTM (the grid Italy uses today), and as plain latitude and longitude, with a copy button so it can be pasted into a message. It takes one reading and stops, to save the battery. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not — so the grid reference stays correct in the Apennines and the Alps, where the map itself often will not load.

The Province of Vercelli stretches across a landscape defined by the rhythmic flooding of rice paddies that mirror the sky, a land caught between the plains and the rising foothills. Once a Roman settlement and later a territory shaped by the influence of powerful ecclesiastical lords, the area bears the marks of history in the stone of the Basilica of Sant'Andrea and the Vercelli Cathedral. In the city of Vercelli, the air often carries the damp, metallic scent of the surrounding waters, while the interior of the Church of San Cristoforo holds a quiet stillness. The economy remains tethered to the earth and the skill of its people, echoing a tradition of production that has defined the region through eras of duchies and kingdom.
Moving toward the northern reaches, the terrain shifts to the rugged character of Borgosesia. Here, the landscape is punctuated by the Parish Church of Saints Peter and Paul and the ancient, shadowed depth of the Ciota Ciara Cave. The land is defined by the flow of the Torrente Cervo and the Roggia del Marchese, carving through a territory that sits as a frontier between the lowlands and the heights of the Alps. The resistance of the local spirit was forged in the harsh winters of the past, where the partisan struggle against occupation left an indelible impression on the hills and the collective memory of the valley.
Beyond the urban centres, the province opens into protected spaces like the Riserva Naturale delle Baragge. While the summit of Pizzo Bianco watches from the distant skyline, the closer peaks like Castello d'Inare offer a sense of scale to the horizon. Life in these towns follows the slow, deliberate pace of the seasons, from the harvest in the fields to the quietude of the winter months. Whether exploring the collections of the Borgogna Museum or the Leone Museum, one senses a place that values the preservation of its heritage, grounded firmly in the geography that sustains it.

This hub links to every comune in the Province of Vercelli and to 357 place maps in the provincia.
Search Maps opens a second, independent map. It searches OpenStreetMap for any Italian comune, frazione, mountain or landmark by name; overlays a labelled UTM grid quoted the way a printed IGM 1:25 000 tavoletta quotes it; measures distance with grid, true and magnetic bearings between any two points; and takes a single GPS fix reporting your position as a Gauss-Boaga reference, as ETRS89 / UTM, and as latitude and longitude. Map tiles need mobile coverage, but a GPS position does not, so the grid reference stays correct where the map cannot load.
There is no topographic layer on these pages. The Istituto Geografico Militare serves its Carta d'Italia only inside the EU, so an Italian equivalent of the 1:25 000 walking sheet cannot be shown here — the UTM grid over OpenStreetMap is what stands in its place.
