Reading the map like an IGM sheet. Click Grid to lay a labelled UTM grid over the map, quoted along the edges the way a printed IGM 1:25 000 tavoletta quotes it — at normal zoom the squares are one kilometre across, so a six-figure reference can be read by eye and distance judged straight off the map. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance between them with the grid, true and magnetic bearings, the last being the one to set on a compass.
Click 📍 My position for a single GPS fix. It marks where you are and reports it as Gauss-Boaga (the grid printed on the IGM Carta d'Italia), as ETRS89 / UTM (the grid Italy uses today), and as plain latitude and longitude, with a copy button so it can be pasted into a message. It takes one reading and stops, to save the battery. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not — so the grid reference stays correct in the Apennines and the Alps, where the map itself often will not load.

Pelago occupies a landscape defined by the Fiume Sieve, where the water moves with a steady, cooling rhythm through the low ground. Above the valley floor, the Poggio di Monsavano rises as a quiet sentinel over the surrounding terrain. The air here carries the scent of oak woods, a lingering influence from the nearby Riserva Naturale Vallombrosa that softens the transition between the riverbank and the higher slopes. It is a place of deliberate movement, where the morning light catches the textures of the earth, highlighting the subtle undulations that lead eventually toward the distant, imposing silhouette of Monte Falterona on the horizon.
The municipality encompasses a wide collection of localita, including San Francesco and Diacceto, which anchor the social life of the area. The local economy remains deeply tethered to the land, mirroring the quiet persistence of the wider Toscana region. Between the rows of vines and olives, life follows the seasonal shifts of the soil. Beyond the immediate settlement, the topography grows more pronounced, leading toward the Poggio della Mandruzza and the rolling expanse of the Valdarno Superiore, where the agricultural traditions of the past remain woven into the daily habits of the residents.
History is present in the stone of the Castello di Nipozzano, which surveys the countryside with a quiet, enduring authority. Nearby, the Chiesa di S.francesco stands as a focal point within the town, its structure grounding the local identity. The Fattoria di Bossi offers a glimpse into the region’s long-standing viticulture, while the Pieve di San Giovanni a Remole provides a sense of architectural continuity. A short distance away, the Monastero di Santa Maria a Rosano rests in a serene pocket of the landscape, reminding one of the deep, monastic roots that have long shaped the cultural contours of this territory.

Explore Pelago, Firenze, Italy, with an embedded Google street and satellite map — switch between the two with the buttons on the map. Coordinates: 43.777778, 11.447193. Place names, the comune and provincia hierarchy and the population come from Istat: the administrative boundaries of 1 January 2026 and the 2021 census of inhabited localities. Local and world news feeds keep the page current, and the bilingual description is written from the data this site holds rather than copied from elsewhere. The 30 nearby places listed above are drawn from OpenStreetMap, the IGM toponym database and a curated list checked against Wikipedia.
Search Maps opens a second, independent map. It searches OpenStreetMap for any Italian comune, frazione, mountain or landmark by name; overlays a labelled UTM grid quoted the way a printed IGM 1:25 000 tavoletta quotes it; measures distance with grid, true and magnetic bearings between any two points; and takes a single GPS fix reporting your position as a Gauss-Boaga reference, as ETRS89 / UTM, and as latitude and longitude. Map tiles need mobile coverage, but a GPS position does not, so the grid reference stays correct where the map cannot load.
There is no topographic layer on these pages. The Istituto Geografico Militare serves its Carta d'Italia only inside the EU, so an Italian equivalent of the 1:25 000 walking sheet cannot be shown here — the UTM grid over OpenStreetMap is what stands in its place.
