Reading the map like an IGM sheet. Click Grid to lay a labelled UTM grid over the map, quoted along the edges the way a printed IGM 1:25 000 tavoletta quotes it — at normal zoom the squares are one kilometre across, so a six-figure reference can be read by eye and distance judged straight off the map. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance between them with the grid, true and magnetic bearings, the last being the one to set on a compass.
Click 📍 My position for a single GPS fix. It marks where you are and reports it as Gauss-Boaga (the grid printed on the IGM Carta d'Italia), as ETRS89 / UTM (the grid Italy uses today), and as plain latitude and longitude, with a copy button so it can be pasted into a message. It takes one reading and stops, to save the battery. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not — so the grid reference stays correct in the Apennines and the Alps, where the map itself often will not load.

The Città metropolitana of Venezia stretches from the Adriatic coast to the inner plains, defined by the specific light reflecting off the lagoon and the brick campanili rising above the flat fields. Once the heart of a powerful maritime republic, the province reflects a history of trade and defense against the sea. Today, the landscape is marked by the Canale Siloncello and the Fiume Sile, while nearby, the Parco Naturale Regionale del Fiume Sile and the Parco San Giuliano offer relief from the city. The air often carries a damp chill, particularly near the Palude Pagliaga or the Valle di Marcello, where the fog settles over the land.
Major hubs like Chioggia, with its Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta and the Museo Civico della Laguna Sud "San Francesco fuori le mura", ground the region in the rhythm of the southern lagoon. San Donà di Piave, anchored by the Cattedrale di Santa Maria delle Grazie and the Museo della Bonifica, speaks to the long labor of transforming the marshes. Beyond these centers, the coast at the Litorale del Cavallino and the Litorale del Lido dictates the daily pace, while the inland fields remain fertile for traditional crops. Venetian stone lions stand watch as reminders of a political authority that once shaped the entire region.
Venezia itself remains the focus, home to the Arsenale di Venezia and the Basilica Cattedrale Patriarcale di San Marco. The city architecture, including the Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute and the Ca' d'Oro, reveals the influence of a past that navigated between the East and the West. Smaller islands host the Basilica di Santa Maria Assunta on Torcello, while the Basilica di San Giorgio Maggiore and the Basilica di Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari define the skyline. The province continues to balance its industrial heritage with the preservation of its delicate environment, where water and stone exist in a state of permanent negotiation.
Explore Venezia, Veneto, Italy, with a Google street and satellite map — switch between the two with the buttons on the map. Street View gives a ground-level view along the roads. Coordinates: 45.5547, 12.3981. Place names, the comune and provincia hierarchy and the population come from Istat: the administrative boundaries of 1 January 2026 and the 2021 census of inhabited localities. Local and world news feeds keep the page current, and the bilingual description is written from the data this site holds rather than copied from elsewhere. This hub links to every comune in the Metropolitan City of Venezia and to 668 place maps in the provincia.
Search Maps opens a second, independent map. It searches OpenStreetMap for any Italian comune, frazione, mountain or landmark by name; overlays a labelled UTM grid quoted the way a printed IGM 1:25 000 tavoletta quotes it; measures distance with grid, true and magnetic bearings between any two points; and takes a single GPS fix reporting your position as a Gauss-Boaga reference, as ETRS89 / UTM, and as latitude and longitude. Map tiles need mobile coverage, but a GPS position does not, so the grid reference stays correct where the map cannot load.
There is no topographic layer on these pages. The Istituto Geografico Militare serves its Carta d'Italia only inside the EU, so an Italian equivalent of the 1:25 000 walking sheet cannot be shown here — the UTM grid over OpenStreetMap is what stands in its place.
