It lies 1.9 miles west-north-west of Sevenoaks (from Sevenoaks: bearing 300°T, OS grid TQ 503 560), and is situated south-south-west of Dunton Green village. The light here often feels thin and silver, catching the pale limestone that defines the local geology. To the south-south-west, the Dryhill SSSI reveals a rugged, jagged face of rock, evidence of the industrial quarrying that once shaped the physical character of the terrain. Residents often walk the short distance to Chipstead Common, where the grass grows thick and coarse under the weight of the prevailing winds. A short distance further, the Montreal Park Obelisk rises as a stark, geometric punctuation mark against the horizon, reminding the observer of the grand estates that once commanded these slopes. The atmosphere in Chipstead remains tethered to the slow, deliberate turn of the seasons rather than the haste of the nearby commuter routes.
