Chislet maintains a quiet dignity upon the low-lying plains of Kent, where the horizon stretches wide and pale against the shifting maritime sky. It lies 3.7 miles south-east of Herne Bay (from Herne Bay: bearing 131°T, OS grid TR 223 645), and is situated south-south-east of Boyden Gate village. The architecture of the parish church stands as a sturdy anchor for the spirit, its flint walls absorbing the damp, silvered light that rolls in from the nearby Chislet Marshes. Here, the earth feels reclaimed from the water, a flat expanse where the wind possesses a sharp, clean clarity that speaks of the proximity of the coast. To the east, the Sarre Penn traces a slow, meandering path through the fields, carving boundaries into a landscape that has long been defined by the patient labour of the plough. These water-fed meadows draw the eye toward the distant rise of Walmers Hill, which breaks the monotony of the marshy horizon with a gentle, earthen swell. Chislet remains a place where the seasons are felt in the deepening of the mud and the sudden, sharp return of migratory birds. The stillness of the afternoon is often broken only by the rhythmic rustle of reeds or the distant drone of agricultural machinery working the heavy, fertile soil.
