It lies 1.2 miles north-north-west of Faversham (from Faversham: bearing 330°T, OS grid TR 005 629), and is situated east of Luddenham village. The light here possesses a particular, sharp clarity, reflecting off the tidal flats where Oare Creek carves a winding, muddy path through the saltings toward the sea. Remnants of a more industrious age linger in the nearby woods, where the Oare Gunpowder Works once harnessed the water’s power to produce the volatile dust that fueled empires. Now, nature reclaims those brick ruins, softening the sharp angles of old kilns with climbing ivy and thick, damp moss. Beyond the industrial relics, the vast, open expanse of the Oare Marshes provides a sanctuary for migratory birds that wheel and cry against the immense, shifting Kentish sky.
