It lies 1.8 miles north-west of Dover (from Dover: bearing 308°T, OS grid TR 292 433), and is situated south-west of Whitfield village. The geography here is defined by the steady rush of water, which long ago powered the paper mills that once hummed with the industry of a bygone age. Today, the water remains a constant companion, feeding the tranquil depths of Kearsney Abbey Lake, where the surface catches the pale, northern light in a silver glaze.
