It lies 4.8 miles south-south-east of Stanford-le-Hope (from Stanford-le-Hope: bearing 158°T, OS grid TQ 731 765), and is situated west of Cliffe village. A quiet stillness defines the horizon here, broken only by the low, silver light reflecting off the surface of Allen’s Pond just to the north-east. The terrain remains stubbornly level, a remnant of a marshland past that keeps the surrounding fields perpetually damp and rich with silt. To the west, the land rises subtly toward the vantage point of The Pinnacle, offering a rare, elevated perspective over the sprawling, industrial remnants of the nearby explosives works. Salt air carries a sharp, metallic tang from the estuary, reminding those who walk these lanes that the sea is never truly absent from the character of the soil.
