It lies 6.6 miles south-west of Mablethorpe (from Mablethorpe: bearing 215°T, OS grid TF 447 761), and is situated west of Alford village. The horizon here is dominated by the elegant silhouette of Alford Windmill, which catches the morning light and casts long, rhythmic shadows across the neighbouring fields. Tothby maintains a modest character, where the damp, dark earth of the surrounding agricultural land suggests a long continuity of labour and harvest. To the north, the Wold Grift Drain channels water through the landscape, offering a cool, reflective contrast to the warmth of the sun-baked soil during the summer months.
