It lies 2.1 miles north-west of Heswall (from Heswall: bearing 315°T, OS grid SJ 247 841), and is situated east-south-east of Caldy village. The wind carries a sharp, saline tang here, scouring the sandstone escarpment where Thurstaston Hill rises to meet the wide, unblinking sky. Upon this high ground, Thor’s Rock stands as a rugged, exposed relic of ancient geology, its coarse surface holding the warmth of the afternoon sun long after the light begins to wane. Below these heights, the landscape descends toward the shore, where the rhythmic tides pull at the coastline with a restless, mechanical persistence.
