Colby remains a sparse, quiet scattering of flint and brick houses defined by the expansive Norfolk sky. It lies 3.2 miles north-north-east of Aylsham (from Aylsham: bearing 33°T, OS grid TG 219 313), and is situated north of Banningham village. The Colby St. Giles Village Sign marks the centre of this landscape, its painted surface catching a low, pale light that seems to bleach the surrounding fields of their colour. Towards the south, the ancient Cross In St Giles' Churchyard stands as a weathered sentinel, its stone worn smooth by centuries of abrasive wind and rain. The terrain here is resolutely flat, a vast agricultural basin where the horizon is interrupted only by the occasional copse of trees or the low hum of distant farm machinery. Residents often walk toward the nearby Alby Crafts, where the scent of sawdust and woodsmoke lingers in the damp, cool air.
