Damgate emerges from the low-lying Norfolk landscape as a quiet collection of dwellings defined by the shifting horizons of the Broads. It lies 7.2 miles north-north-east of Loddon (from Loddon: bearing 22°T, OS grid TG 401 097), and is situated south of Acle village. Water defines the character of the soil, with Coleman's Drain pulsing like a silver vein just a short distance to the north-east, feeding the slow movement of the marshlands.
