It lies 2.6 miles south of Watton (from Watton: bearing 179°T, OS grid TL 918 967), and is situated west-north-west of Thompson village. The horizon here is defined by subtle rises, including the gentle swell of Sparrow Hill, which keeps watch over the surrounding fields. Ancient earthworks remain visible on that elevated ground, serving as a silent connection to the people who once walked these paths long before the modern road network took its present form. A few hundred yards to the east, the Thompson Village Sign marks the transition toward the neighbouring parish, standing as a colourful anchor in the open air. The character of Pockthorpe is shaped by this proximity to the wilder, wetter margins of the region, where the vast expanse of the Thompson Water, Carr and Common SSSI influences the local climate and ecology.
