It lies 2.7 miles north-north-east of Norton-on-Derwent (from Norton-on-Derwent: bearing 28°T, OS grid SE 816 753), and is situated north-north-west of Scagglethorpe village. The landscape here is defined by a rigorous geometry of drainage and field, where the Wykeham Drain pulls moisture from the heavy earth just a short distance to the south-south-west. Pale, diffuse light often lingers over the fields, lending the open pastures a silvered, contemplative quality that shifts with the passing of clouds. A short distance to the north-north-west, the modest rise of Wath Hill breaks the monotony of the plain, offering a subtle vantage point over the surrounding agricultural patchwork.
