About Alnmouth

Alnmouth rests where the River Aln surrenders to the North Sea's embrace. It lies 6.4 km east-south-east of Alnwick (from Alnwick: bearing 113°T, OS grid NU 246 106), and is situated east-south-east of Hipsburn village. The village green, a sweep of emerald, often catches the sea breeze, carrying the faint tang of salt and the distant cries of gulls. Ancient rights, born of a time when boats once navigated the Aln to this very spot, seem to linger in the salt-laced air, a reminder of Alnmouth's maritime past. Houses, their stone walls weathered by countless coastal storms, huddle together against the elements, their windows gazing out towards the vast expanse of the Northumbrian coast.
