It lies 4.5 miles south-south-west of Axbridge (from Axbridge: bearing 193°T, OS grid ST 413 474), and is situated north-north-west of Heath House village. The character of Blackford is defined by the low, expansive horizon, where the light shifts with a heavy, oceanic quality across the fields. To the north-west, the gentle, reed-fringed path of Blackford Brook marks the passage of water through the silt, a faint ribbon of silver that has nourished these acres for centuries. History here is held in the earth, most notably at the Blackford Manor House Moat, where the stagnant water of the medieval site reflects the sky in a dark, silent mirror. Beyond the immediate fields, the ground begins to rise toward the distant, hazy heights of Lascot Hill, grounding the village against the vastness of the sky.
