It lies 3.6 miles south-east of Axbridge (from Axbridge: bearing 127°T, OS grid ST 477 509), and is situated north-west of Rodney Stoke village. The terrain here rises sharply from the flat, reclaimed levels toward the rugged heights of the Draycott Sleights SSSi, where the pale rock breaks through the turf like the spine of some ancient, buried creature. Below these steep slopes, the slow, rhythmic pulse of the Dolemead Rhyne draws a silver thread across the dark, heavy earth of the moor. Centuries of agricultural toil have defined the boundaries of the fields, leaving behind the quiet ghosts of the Deserted Medieval Hamlet E Of Draycott to watch over the modern lanes.
